Issues:
Privacy, reasonable suspicion, random testing, slander, policy and procedures

Case Summary:
(Editor's note: This is one of several court actions concerning Thomas Poulos' suit against his former employer.) Poulos sues his employer, Pfizer, Inc., for wrongful discharge, invasion of privacy, and emotional distress. The company terminated Poulos' employment after he posted positive results in several random drug tests. Poulos claims that the testing violated state policy and contends that his termination was unlawful.

Decision of lower jurisdiction:
This is the first judicial review of this aspect of the case.

Outcome:
Poulos wins. A superior court judge ruled that the company lacked reasonable suspicion when it ordered Poulos to submit to the drug tests.
