Case Summary:
In a pair of consolidated cases, the unions representing railway employees clam the defendants attempted to alter the wording of an approved collective bargaining agreement. Union officials claimed the railroad executives attempted to revise the travel allowance for some union workers. The executives claimed the revisions were based on past practices that were exempt from the restrictions of the agreement.
Decision of lower jurisdiction:
This is the first judicial review of the case.
Outcome:
A split decision. The U. S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois ruled in favor of the unions on some aspects of the case, but granted the executives' motion for an injunction while the case was on appeal.
