Collective bargaining, union issues.

A group of 29 former employees of the Colgate-Palmolive Company file suit against the company after they were dismissed from their positions. The employees relocated in order to accept positions in the company's Jeffersonville facility. The employees had worked at the company's Jersey City plant, but agreed to move when the company announced plans to close that facility. Within months of relocating, company officials dismissed the employees because of declining business. The employees argued that the company knew or should have known their positions at the Jeffersonville plant were only temporary. The issues was submitted to the National Labor Relations Board.

The National Labor Relations Board ruled in favor of the company and dismissed the complaint, noting that Colgate had stuck to the collective bargaining agreement between it and the union representing the employees. The former employees appealed the ruling and the company responded with a motion for summary judgment.

The company wins. The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana granted the company's motion for summary judgment.
