Connie Rae Riley appeals a lower court's decision to transfer custody of her daughter to her ex-husband. Billy Doerner petitioned the court for a transfer of custody, claiming that his ex-wife could not provide a safe and healthy environment for the child. Riley contested her ex-husband's petition.

The Lauderdale County Chancery Court ordered custody of the daughter to be transferred to Doerner. The court based its decision on Riley's admission of marijuana use and a positive result in a court-ordered drug test. Riley appealed the decision, but the ruling was affirmed by the court of appeals. Riley now appeals to the state's supreme court.

Riley loses. The Mississippi Supreme Court affirmed the rulings of the lower jurisdictions. The supreme court ruled that the chancery court acted in the best interest of the child when it transferred custody to the father.
