Case Summary:
A former employee of the Great Western Mortgage Corporation appeals a lower court's ruling in her suit against the company. At the time she was hired by Great Western, Michelle Peacock signed a company policy to which she agreed to settle any future dispute with the company through arbitration. Company officials later asked her to sign a more detailed document that covered the same policy. Peacock later filed suit against the company, claiming her supervisors sexually harassed her. Great Western refused to litigate the issue, arguing that Peacock previously agreed to settle such disputes through arbitration.
 
Decision of lower jurisdiction:
A U.S. District Court ruled for Great Western. The court ruled the company's arbitration agreement constituted a legal contract between employer and employee. Peacock now appeals.
 
Outcome:
Peacock loses The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit affirmed the lower court's ruling. The appeals court ruled Peacock was bound to accept the terms and conditions set forth in the company's arbitration agreement.
