Jane Roe, a former employee of Quality Transportation Services, appeals a lower court's ruling concerning her dismissal from the company. Roe refused to submit to a company-mandated drug test. Company officials subsequently dismissed Roe, citing a violation of established drug-testing policy. Roe filed a wrongful discharge suit, claiming a violation of public policy. The company responded with a motion to dismiss.

A trial granted the company's motion to dismiss. The court ruled that Roe failed to adequately state a claim upon which relief could be granted. Roe now appeals.

Roe loses. The Washington Court of Appeals affirmed the ruling of the lower jurisdiction. The appeals court ruled that existing case law required the trial court to dismiss the case for lack of a specified claim.
