BETA Systems, Inc., part of Thomson Financial, requires anyone offered a job there to take a urine test as a condition of employment. This, I was told, is something that has been required under Thomson Financial and BETA Systems, Inc., policy for many years and is also required under many if not all of BETA Systems, Inc.'s contracts with its clients. The company designs and hosts online and other computerized stock-brokerage-trading and other financial software, which might help explain the "reasoning" involved.
Nowhere, to my knowledge, does the Web site of BETA Systems, Inc., mention preemployment urine testing as a condition of employment. Given how the company otherwise seems a great place to work, it's a shame that the company has such a requirement. It no doubt loses more good, drug-free potential employees than it can imagine. |
