Does Kohl’s Drug-Test Employees?
The company’s Code of Ethics states its commitment to a healthy, safe, and environmentally compliant workplace for its associates and customers. This work environment is also free from the following elements:
Preemployment Drug Testing
If you are a store applicant who received and accepted a job offer, you may be required to take a drug test. According to Kohl’s FAQs, one will receive a notification email from a background-check company after submitting the necessary consent forms. This email sets out “how to complete the pre-employment check process, including how to take a drug test if required.”
The FAQs for distribution applicants contain limited to no information about drug tests or background checks. Based on a 2019 personnel policy on drug testing, associates and executives in distribution centers are among those who need to pass a drug test as a condition of employment.
Drug Testing during Employment
Kohl’s can require existing employees to undergo drug tests due to injury while on duty, promotion/transfer, and so on. A former employee, who had a medical marijuana card, sued Kohl’s Department Stores Inc. for wrongful termination after testing positive on a drug test conducted after a workplace injury.
The Answer
For better outcomes, be aware of Kohl’s policy nos. 126E for drug testing and 150 for alcohol and substance abuse. These policies may be updated regularly. According to the drug-testing policy, revised in 2019, an applicant’s or associate’s conditional offer may be rescinded, except as prohibited by state law, if they engage in illegal drug use.
